Soup for the Soul 2012 set to be an amazing night - January 19, 2012

Story by Sophia Kecskes

Soup for the Soul is back! The event, which benefits the work of our community partner Transition Projects, is an opportunity to spend an intimate and entertaining evening with some of Portland's top chefs. Enjoy beer, wine, desserts, a silent auction, and live music, and meet Portland’s best chefs (and their soups!).

Nonprofit Transition Projects helps people move from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Formerly located at 5th and Glisan, Transition Projects moved into Bud Clark Commons when it opened in June 2011 and operates the shelter space component of the center.

Soup for the Soul's line-up is still growing, but already includes:

-Christopher Israel. GQ named Christopher's Grüner one of the 10 best new restaurants in America. A 2011 James Beard nominee, Christopher has cooked at Zefiro and Saucebox.

Daniel Mondok. Daniel’s resume includes Genoa, Sel Grisand Foster Burger. In a highly anticipated move, he is opening a new restaurant at the Inn at Red Hills in Dundee, previously occupied by Farm to Fork.

-  Greg Samples. Greg is executive chef at Portland Prime, winner of Wine Spectator's 2011 Award of Excellence. He has cooked in the Pacific Northwest for more than 20 years.

-  Chris Thompson. Chris’ Iorio was named Best Restaurant 2010 by CitySearch. Chris has been the People's Choice award winner in Portland Iron Chef and was runner-up in Eater PDX's Hottest Chef competition.

Soup for the Soul 2012 will take place on February 23 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at Urban Studio, 935 NW Davis Street. Tickets are available exclusively online and are $75 per person.

We hope to see you there!
