POL Government Elected Officials Commissioner Nick Fish
Equity Ride tours East Portland this Thursday - August 23, 2011

Story by Sophia Kecskes

While Portland is by and large an amazing place to live, we know inequities and disparities still exist. Not all communities have the same access to the things that make Portland so attractive - great parks, easy access to transportation options, quality grocery stores, and more.

This Thursday, a broad group of community partners will present Portland's 2nd Annual Equity Bike Ride, a tour of East Portland that includes stops for brief presentations on work being done to increase equity there.

Riders will hear from:

  • The Latino Network
  • Native American Youth and Family Center
  • The Skanner Foundation
  • Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization
  • Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon
  • Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center
  • Center for Diversity & the Environment

This year's ride kicks off at Lents Park and winds through the Lents neighborhood for 6.5 miles. (Last year's ride toured the Montavilla neighborhood.)

The Equity Ride is a great way to get to know East Portland and the groups working to make it an even better place to call home - we hope to see you there!
