Preparing for winter weather emergencies - November 22, 2010

A winter weather advisory warns that Portland could see more than an inch of snow today.

Together with Multnomah County and community partners, the Portland Housing Bureau coordinates winter and severe weather shelter and day services for homeless people in our community.

PHB funds two winter shelters in downtown Portland, and Multnomah County operates a family shelter on the east side of town.

To make sure there's room for the night, please check in before heading to a shelter.

For the most up to date information on shelter or assistance, call 211info by dialing 2-1-1 from a cell phone or (503) 222-5555 from a land line.

211info also reports that they are in need of blankets and coats. Donations are being accepted at a number of sites - call 2-1-1 for the latest information.

In Multnomah County, the call line is open from 8am to 10pm daily.
