Join Nick for a Wellness Walk! - August 15, 2010

Story by Sarah Wigginton

Come join Nick on Saturday, August 21, for the African American Health Coalition's 8th Annual Wellness Walk.

The African American Health Coalition (AAHC) is a local non-profit that works to promote and improve health in the African American community by strengthening and empowering community members. They recognize the importance of local participation in the implementation of health care programs. AAHC offers healthy cooking classes, low-cost access to Matt Dishman and University Park rec centers, information about health insurance, and much more to promote wellness for Portland-are African Americans.

The AAHC's walk is a part of Commissioner Amanda Fritz's Wellness Challenge. The Wellness Challenge encourages the City Council to participate in local runs and walks that support the community, encourage healthy recreation, and get the blood pumping.

The Wellness Walk begins at 8:00 am at Dawson Park, located next to the AAHC office at 2800 N Vancouver.) There are two routes available - a 5k and a 1.5k. After the walk, make sure to enjoy the food, dancing, massage, and music!

To register, visit AAHC's website. The registration fee is $20 per person or $150 for a team of 10. For more information, call (503) 413-1850.

We hope to see you there!
