Four years ago, thousands of people gathered in Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland's living room, to watch a World Cup match. Today, Nick was proud to join Drew Mahalic, CEO of the Oregon Sports Authority, and representatives from the Portland Timbers, Alpha Broadcasting, and TAOW Modern Marketing to announce two free public World Cup viewing parties coming up this summer.
First, on June 12, the US - England match will be shown at Director Park, at 8th and Yamhill in downtown Portland. This is just one of the hundreds of free summer events coming up this summer as part of Parks' Summer Free for All, a lineup which includes concerts, movies, free playground programs, lunch for kids, and more. Then, on July 11, the World Cup final will be shown at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Both events begin at 11:00 am; the matches are set to begin at 11:30.
"We're thrilled to give Oregonians the chance to come together and celebrate the incredible drama of World Cup soccer in the heart of downtown Portland," Mahalic said.
Also on June 12, the Portland Timbers will unveil their official MLS logo for the 2011 season.
