Community Outreach:

The Jeff Morris Fire & Life Safety Foundation provides the hands-on learning about fighting fires.  Learn about Safety Saturdays, schedule tours, and purchase items from the on-line store.  The foundation is located at the Historic Belmont Firehouse Learning Center, at 900 SE 35th Avenue in Portland.  You can find their newsletter here.

Portland Fire & Rescue's sister city is Guadalajara, Mexico.  The Bombero Program has created a unique and beneficial relationship between Portland and Guadalajara.

Toy N Joy Makers provides gifts for children during the holiday season.

Neighbors helping neighbors:

Become a partner with emergency service providers in your neighborhood by getting involved with the Neighborhood Emergency Team.

Volunteer to help your neighbor get through a difficult situation with the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP). Trauma Intervention Programs Inc. Portland/Vancouver Chapter is a nonprofit 501 (C)(3) group specially trained citizen volunteers who provide immediate emotional and practical support to victims, survivors, family and bystanders following a traumatic event. TIP partners with local police and fire agencies and provide 24-hour service to over one million citizens in the Portland/Vancouver Greater Metro areas.

The Need for TIP:

In the hours following a traumatic event, victims and survivors often feel hopeless, confused, devastated and are emotionally paralyzed.  Confronted with dire situations, they are totally unprepared and don't know which way to turn. Emergency personnel on scene are busy with their own duties and responsibilities and find it difficult to provide meaningful emotional support to victims and survivors.  TIP volunteers are called by these emergency personnel and respond within 20 minutes to provide support until the victims or survivors are able to depend on family members, friends, neighbors or other support systems.

For more information about the Trauma Intervention Program, Inc., please visit their website at:  www.tipnw.org

For information about TIP, contact June Vining at 503.823.3937.

The Bureau Advisory Committee (BAC) is comprised of outside stakeholders and serves to advise our organization on strategic and fiscal issues.  Their role is to:

  • Help Portland Fire & Rescue update our Strategic Plan
  • Help develop strategies to increase support for PF&R's budget
  • Provide feedback on current and future budget issues
  • Help develop strategies for PF&R to make the best use of our limited resources
  • Support PF&R throughout the City of Portland's budget process

Neighborhood Station Advisory Committees (SAC) help PF&R with station location and design.  Portland Fire & Rescue is in the process of strengthening all stations to withstand an earthquake and building new facilities to help serve our growing population.

For each station, we will hold public meetings and rely on advice from a Station Advisory Commitee made up of folks who live in that particular neighborhood.

Portland Fire & Rescue, the Commissioner-in-Charge, and the City Council have the responsibility to make decisions based on laws, operations, and other factors.  These decisions will be based on recommendations from you, your neighbors, and especially citizens who join a SAC.

To find out when meetings are in your neighborhood and to volunteer as a member of a Station Advisory Committee, please call Chief John Klum at (503) 823-3729.
