Update

Environmental Services is continuing construction activities for the East Side Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Tunnel Project, also known as the East Side Big Pipe. This is the largest of Portland’s projects to control CSOs to the Willamette River. The tunnel will be 22-feet in diameter, more than 100 feet deep and six miles long. In addition, shallower pipelines are being installed to connect the existing sewer outfalls to the tunnel.

Construction continues at the McLoughlin Shaft, located at SE 17th Avenue and McLoughlin Boulevard.  The microtunnel work to construct a pipeline from the McLoughlin Shaft to SE 18th Avenue and Insley Street has been completed.  The remaining excavation of the McLoughlin Shaft is continuing.  A second crew will be added to this phase of work to accelerate the progress.  This shaft will be the final destination for the tunnel.
