Discussion Forum on Human Rights Commission

The Charter Review Commission has decided to consider adding charter language requiring the existence of a Human Rights Commission for the city.  A Human Rights Commission currently exists but is only in ordinance and can be changed or eliminated by a majority vote of the City Council.  Adding a Human Rights Commission to the Charter means that it could only be changed or eliminated by Portland voters.  Please add your comments about this issue to help the Charter Commission in its discussions.

General Topics Discussion Forum

The Charter of the City of Portland is like the city's constitution.  The Charter Review Commission, a body of citizen volunteers is able to consider any topic that should be removed, changed or added to the City of Portland's charter.  This forum is to provide input to the Commission on topics it should consider as part of its discussions.  While you have to be a registered user of PortlandOnline to leave a comment, you can do so anonymously.  However, if you leave an anonymous comment, it will be difficult to follow up with questions or for further information.

Thank you for your input!
