Title FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area (100-year floodplain)
1.2 Description
Abstract FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), which is also commonly referred to as the 100-year floodplain. Based on November 2010 FEMA maps, with subsequent "Letters of Map Revision" (LOMR) information incorporated as approved by FEMA.
Purpose This is the floodplain to use for all regulatory and insurance purposes. From FEMA: The land area covered by the floodwaters of the base flood is the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) on NFIP maps. The SFHA is the area where the NFIP's floodplain management regulations must be enforced and the area where the mandatory purchase of flood insurance applies. The SFHA includes Zones A, AO, AH, A1-30, AE, A99, AR, AR/A1-30, AR/AE, AR/AO, AR/AH, AR/A, VO, V1-30, VE, and V.

5.2 Overview description Related data files and field descriptions follow:
Table Name Column Name Column Type Column Width Sample Domain Value Definition
floodplain_100yr_pdx -- -- -- --
OBJECTID Integer 4 -- A unique software ID for each polygon. May change when data is modified.
FLOOD100 Integer 4 -- Binary flag identifying areas within the special flood hazard area (SFHA). Areas within the SFHA (100-year floodplain) receive a value of 1. Used for modeling purposes.
SOURCE String 60 -- The reference source of the floodplain.
Aerial Photos Floodplain manually digitized where visible on 6"-resolution aerial photos.
LIDAR DEM Floodplain based on visual interpretation of the 2004 through 2007 regional LiDAR data. The LiDAR points were used to generate a 3' digital elevation model and hillshade.
LIDAR-Derived Floodplain automatically derived from 2004, 2005, and 2007 LiDAR elevation models using "feature extraction" techniques.
LOMR Floodplain mapped based on FEMA-approved "letter of map revision" (LOMR) and supporting maps and documents.
FEMA Floodplain mapped by FEMA (latest City of Portland mapping revision November 2010)
Field Survey Floodplain was digitized using GPS data collected in a field visit, or delineated based on a formal survey.
