Peak Oil Task Force

Peak Oil Task Force Executive Summary Cover Page Over the past six months, the Peak Oil Task Force held more than 40 meetings and involved dozens of policymakers, experts, stakeholders and interested citizens in gathering information and preparing a draft report for public comment. The final version of the report is now ready, and was presented to City Council on March 7, 2007. City Council passed resolution No. 36488 in response.

The 86-page final report, titled “Descending the Oil Peak: Navigating the Transition from Oil and Natural Gas,” includes recommendations to reduce oil use and strengthen the community’s ability to respond to social and economic stress.

The Task Force will present its final report to City Council on March 7, 2007, 10:15 a.m., at Council Chambers, Portland City Hall, 1224 SW 4th Avenue.

About the Peak Oil Task Force

Changes in the availability of affordable petroleum products may have significant impacts on transportation, housing, food, and other life-essential products and services.

In May 2006, Portland City Council created a Peak Oil Task Force to develop recommendations on appropriate responses to uncertainties in the supply and affordability of oil.

Twelve citizens were appointed to the Task Force in June 2006. The mission of the Task Force is to identify key short-term and long-term vulnerabilities and develop recommendations for addressing these issues.
