South Reach

Neighborhoods and Natural Areas

The South Reach includes areas south of the Ross Island Bridge to the city boundary and areas of urban unincorporated Multnomah County for which Portland has planning authority (view map). The River Concept, adopted by City Council in 2006, characterizes the future for the South Reach as follows:

The South Reach will provide unique fish and wildlife habitat, parks and trails in the center of the city, easily reached from established neighborhoods.

Planning for the South Reach is just getting underway. The River Plan/South Reach will address the following topics:

  • Access to, along and across the River

  • Fish and wildlife habitat

  • Riverfront communities (e.g., John's Landing/Macadam, floating homes)

  • Water based recreation

  • Educational or interpretive opportunities

  • Other topics as identified

The River Team wants to hear from you. Please review the guidance language for the South Reach on pages 25-28 in the River Concept and let us know what you think.
