City of Portland BEST Business Center  offers free technical and financial assistance to help Portland businesses adopt green practices. BEST can help provide reliable, customized expert assistance, sustainability reports, access to cash, the recognition your business deserves, and networking opportunities.

 

Portland Climate Champion from the BEST Business Center recognizes businesses that are working to reduce their energy use and carbon emissions.  Could you be a PCC? 

 

BoneyardNW is an interactive online tool connecting buyers, sellers and traders of used commercial construction material in the local Metro region.

 

Local, green and sustainable business certifications

EcoBiz is a statewide certification program for landscapers and automotive shops.

 

Energy Trust of OR Trade Allies are sub-contractors around the state who are trained and approved to complete energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in order for their customers to receive Energy Trust of OR cash incentives.

 

Earth Advantage (EA) Green Builder and Remodeler Advantage Program is a third-party non-profit green builder training and certification program.

 

Earth Advantage Sustainability Training for Accredited Real Estate Professionals (STAR) is a third-party non-profit green Realtor training and certification program.

  

US Green Building Council Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)  LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes building professionals with the knowledge and skills of green building practices to successfully steward the LEED certification process.

 

Start up assistance for entrepreneurs and small business

City of Portland Bureau of Development Services’ Small Business Development Team is available to provide you with early bricks and mortar assistance, identify permit factors that you should know about, collaborate with other bureaus on your behalf, provide information about fees and processes that will affect your project and deliver seamless assistance for getting your project permitted, inspected and approved. 

 

S.C.O.R.E. is a non-profit working in partnership with the Small Business Administration (SBA) offering free assistance to entrepreneurs and small businesses.

 

CubeSpace is a non-profit meeting space with cubicles for rent, conference rooms and free business and legal advice, and networking. Cubespace is powered by green energy located close in central SE Portland.

 

Oregon SBDC BizCenter (Small Business Development Center) provides online, or one-on-one, expert advice on diverse business topics.

 

Portland Development Commission New Business Services provides resources and technical assistance for your start up new operation.

 

Recognition and marketing

PDX Lounge has a brand new storefront presence opening Spring 2009 close in central NE Portland.  The City of Portland Office of Sustainable Development (OSD) Economic Development Program will provide free marketing assistance, a materials showroom, meeting space, visibility and training for local sustainable businesses and their products.

 

EcoMetro Chinook Book is book of local sustainable business coupons, ideas and resources, reprinted annually, for living well in the Portland Metro Region.

 

GreenPosting enables Portland-based green-leaning and healthy living businesses to create a free or low-cost posting.  GreenPosting brings together a community of local sustainable-minded businesses and people.

 

ReDirect Guide is a printed guide and on-line directory for locating merchants and organizations offering environmentally, socially, and health conscious goods and services in the Portland/Vancouver Metro Region.

 

Sustainable Business Network of Portland (SBNP) is a non-profit business alliance of locally owned independent businesses, service providers, community organizations and individuals committed to building a more socially,environmentally and financially sustainable local economy.

 

Networking and connections

Green Drinks is a relaxed opportunity to meet and network with like-minded environmentally-focused individuals once a month around business opportunities, job prospects and informative presentations.  No-host pizza and beer are involved.

 

NW EcoBuilding Guild is a non-profit regional association of builders, designers, homeowners, trades people, manufacturers, suppliers and others interested in ecologically sustainable building which holds monthly informational gatherings and has a regional advertiser directory The Green Pages.

 

Oregon Natural Step is a non-profit membership organization supporting Oregon business, governmental, and educational organizations interested in using The Natural Step (TNS) framework for sustainability.
