Two local events invite Portlanders to take action for the climate
Event #1: 350.org's International Day of Climate Action
When: Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
What: Members of Oregon's environmental movement, faith communities and various other groups will join for a rally to support strong action on climate change. The rally coincides with similar actions around the world as part of the global 350 movement inspired by author Bill McKibben. The rally will include songs, dances, poetry readings and an opportunity to learn more about how to get involved in stopping global warming.

Where: Pioneer Courthouse Square, downtown Portland
Who: The event is sponsored by Oregon Interfaith Power and Light, a project of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, and a variety of coalition partners including the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, Bob's Red Mill, Albina Community Bank, Climate Solutions, The Greenville Project, and Takohachi, with more supporters being added every day.

Event #2: Greenlight the City of Portland and Multnomah County's 2009 Climate Action Plan
When: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
What: Portland City Council will consider testimony and vote on the revised 2009 Climate Action Plan. JOIN US! Portlanders can show their support for our community's ambitious action plan by joining us at the City Council hearing and wearing green to "greenlight" the Climate Action Plan. Let the city's leaders know that you care about this critical plan to ensure our community's health and prosperity.
Where: City Hall, 1221 SW 4th Avenue, Council Chambers, 2nd Floor
Why: City and County staff have revised the draft 2009 Climate Action Plan to address key findings from the public comment process. The adoption of this plan means that we set in place our community's ambitious sustainability roadmap to cut our local carbon emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050.
Who: Everyone is welcome to attend.
