Since most of the subwatershed is in Forest Park there are few buildings. Most development occurred in the last twenty years, though data is not available for more than a third of the structures in the subwatershed. A few of the structures were built before 1945.
Portions of the upper watershed are experiencing residential development on large lots. This development threatens to fragment the habitat in the upper watershed and could impact stream flow and water temperatures.
A commercial marina occupies the area at the mouth of Miller Creek. Sometime in the last ten years the marina property owner moved the mouth of the creek to accommodate an expanded parking lot. Riparian vegetation, stream structure, and wetlands were most likely lost in the reconstruction of the channel.
The river and the flat bottomland served as the major transportation routes out of Portland to the northwest. River, wagon, rail, and then road corridor construction took advantage of the flat and relatively unobstructed terrain near the mouth of the creek.
