Geology & Soils

Generally, soils are primarily Multnomah and Latourell soils and Urban Land Complex. Urban Land Complex is made up of Multnomah and Latourell soils that have been disturbed; covered by as much as 30 inches of fill or as much as 50 inches of the original profile have been removed by cutting or grading. Multnomah soils have a surface layer of dark brown silt loam.

The subsoil is dark brown gravelly silt loam over very gravelly sand to a depth of 60 inches or more. Latourell soils have a surface layer of dark brown loam. The subsoil is dark yellowish-brown loam over very gravelly sand to a depth of about 29 inches. These soils are classified as Type B hydrologic soils; in areas where these soils are relatively undisturbed permeability is moderate to high ( BES, 1999).

Pockets of Type C Hydrologic soils, exhibiting moderately low rates of infiltration, occur south of Powell Boulevard and west of 17th Street ( BES, 1999).
