The Community Watershed Stewardship Program (CWSP) is a partnership between Portland Environmental Services, Portland State University and AmeriCorps. The program engages Portlanders in enhancing the health of our watersheds while promoting public awareness of our connection to these natural systems. We offer funding for community projects, help with project planning, and assist in connecting community groups with resources for their projects.

Community Watershed Stewardship means working together to honor our responsibility to Portland's streams, watersheds, neighborhoods and natural areas. Only the wise actions and choices of individuals like you can give us healthy watersheds and clean rivers and streams. Though your individual actions may seem simple, when combined with the rest of the community's efforts, the results are incredible.

We offer two types of funding for community watershed projects.

  • Community Watershed Stewardship Grants provide up to $10,000 to schools, churches, businesses and other community organizations for projects that connect people with watersheds and protect and enhance watershed health. These annual grants are funded through a competitive process based on the merits of the project and CWSP goals for watershed and community benefit.

  • CWSP also distributes Native Plant Mini Grants of up to $300 for projects that improve watershed health.  Mini grant applications are reviewed throughout the year.  They are available to both community groups and some private landowners.
