Welcome to the Portland Brownfield Program
What do these places have in common?
All of the properties pictured above were once used in ways that caused contamination. For this reason, they were considered brownfields. A brownfield is a site where contamination – or the possibility of contamination – is preventing use or redevelopment.
There are many different kinds of brownfields: large industrial sites, but also small properties in every community that were once places like gas stations or dry cleaners.
The Portland Brownfield Program is a resource for property owners, developers, community organizations, and neighbors who are interested in transforming brownfields into vibrant working space for the City of Portland. We can provide technical and financial support when contamination is a concern.
Look around this site to learn more about our services and some of the projects we are working on, and don't hesitate to contact us for more information.
