Willamette Watershed Characterization Report
The plan describes the health of our watersheds, offers preferred strategies and actions for protection and improvement, uses the best available science, helps the City of Portland meet state and federal regulatory requirements, and integrates the work of several city bureaus in developing a cost-effective, comprehensive approach to improving our urban watersheds.
The Watershed Management Plan establishes an on-going environmental management system to allow the city to adapt as we learn more, and improve the quality of life for Portland citizens. The Willamette Watershed Characterization Report was the first step in developing the Portland Watershed Management Plan. The report describes the historic and current conditions on three different scales:
The Willamette Watershed Plan Area Characterization describes conditions across the entire watershed plan area.
The Willamette River Channel Characterization describes conditions along the Willamette River, both within the channel and in the riparian area.
The Willamette River Subwatershed Characterizations describe conditions unique to each of the 27 subwatersheds within the plan area.
