In an effort to better protect the City’s urban forest, citizens may report suspected after hour tree violations at (503) 823-7180 (BES pollution complaint hotline). Calls will be received after 5 PM - 7 AM Monday – Friday and all hours on Saturday and Sunday. After hour calls will be responded to by the on call Duty Officer who will conduct a site inspection for reports of active tree cutting activities (either on private property or in the public right-of-way). The purpose of the site visit is to document potential violations for formal enforcement actions. Documented after hour tree cutting activities will be forwarded to the Bureau of Development Services and Urban Forestry the next business day for formal investigation and enforcement action.
Duty Officers are not able to verify tree violations or issue stop work orders. Duty Officer’s will inform persons that complaints have been received and violations, if verified, will receive enforcement action including potential civil penalties.
During normal business hours, 7 AM – 5 PM Monday – Friday, suspected tree violations must be reported to the following departments:
- Reporting suspected tree violations on private property – BDS Enforcement Code Complaint Line at (503) 823-2633.
- Reporting suspected tree violations in the public right-of-way or heritage tree– Urban Forestry at (503) 823-4489.
