Local home builders association wins two national association excellence awards

Hbapdx.org website screenshotThe Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland (HBAMP) recently won Association Excellence Awards from the Executive Officers Council of the National Association of Home Builders in the categories of "Best Association Coalition/Partnership" and "Best Home or Industry Show." The awards were presented during the national group's annual seminar in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The AEA annual program is designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of state and local HBA's. Within this program, the HBAMP competes against the largest top-tier HBA's in the country. And during the last five years, it has won 22 AEA awards, making it the most decorated metropolitan HBA in the country.

"I am very proud of the accomplishments of our association and the hard work of our staff and members," said Dave Nielsen, HBAMP Executive Officer. "To continue to have our efforts recognized by our peers from around the country year after year, especially given the economic challenges we are all facing, is truly appreciated."

Information on the AEAs Won by the HBAMP this year:

Best Association Coalition/Partnership award – The HBAMP was recognized for its work with the City of Portland on the PEEHP (Portland Energy Efficiency Home Pilot) program. The PEEHP Program was proposed as a way to find out the cost of increasing energy efficiency mandates prior to formulation of a city policy on this issue. The purpose of the program was to learn real costs, construction changes and consumer values as well as find a common place to start conversations moving forward in the progression increased energy efficiency. The result of this concern was a partnership between the HBAMP, the City of Portland, Portland General Electric, NW Natural Gas, the Portland Development Commission, and Pacific Power. The partnership has helped slow down proposed regulations and is creating better dialogue between the city and home building industry about what goals are relevant and how best to achieve those goals.

Best Home or Industry Show – The HBAMP was recognized for its innovative work in recreating its signature NW Natural Street of Dreams event in 2009. In taking what had been a traditional single-family site show and moving it to a downtown urban condo environment, HBAMP created an innovative show that attracted thousands of new attendees while providing an experience unlike any show it had done before in its 35 year show history. The partnerships within the Pearl District, the development of a walking tour, the added value of the Pearl Pass, and the success of the show were all factors in HBAMP being selected for this award.

The Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland is the leading voice for the residential building industry, representing more than 1,000 builders, remodelers and industry professionals. Since 1942, HBA has worked on behalf of the industry to promote diverse, affordable housing options to area residents. Learn more at http://hbapdx.org.
