Neighborhood Inspections teams typically inspects property on a request for service basis. This means that Inspectors respond to complaints. Complaints can be referred to this section from basically any source. Typically the complaints will come from a neighbor but we often receive referrals from Police, Social Service agencies, or other sources concerned about a property's condition or an occupants safety.
There is currently one target inspection area. A target area is determined on the basis of census for a particular area using various factors such as income, history and request for a focus on the area from the neighborhood. Boundaries are drawn consistent with Neighborhood lines. The program is funded by Federal money and only applies to specific areas with specific criteria. The Inspectors do pro-active inspections in these areas based on the following criteria:
- The property must be a rental property.
- The property is behind on property taxes and might have existing City liens.
- The property has a history of non-compliance.
- The property shows signs of deterioration or has existing Title 29 violations.
The inspector would also take enforcement action on owner occupied property's in the event that those properties had extensive deterioration or offered a danger to neighbor's property or health
