The day began with a spirit of appreciation, cooperation and recognition, on the part of the writer and those who openly shared thoughts of their experiences at the conference. And ended with introspection.
The event that brought together over 800 people from diverse backgrounds and experiences was the 14th Annual City of Portland, Multnomah and Clackamas Counties Diversity Conference.
This conference was particularly significant for the Bureau of Development Services. The bureau employees present were excited, thrilled and delighted as we witnessed Director Paul Scarlett amplify the Bureau's commitment to diversity and equal opportunity as he received the first Diversity Champion Award. This award is based on the over all bureau wide diversity efforts and accomplishments. The award was presented by City of Portland Commissioner Randy Leonard. Congratulations BDS Diversity Committee, Staff and Managers.
The day long Diversity Conference was followed by The Urban League of Portland largest ever Equal Opportunity Day Awards Dinner.
This dinner was attended by many leaders in business, education and government. Among the notable attendees was BDS Director Paul Scarlett. Director Scarlett's presence represented his personal and the Bureau's collective commitment to strengthen Portland's communities through partnerships in land and resource development and equally, if not more important by establishing sustainable diverse relationships that will thrive in the community we are building together.
