Implementation of Audit Recommendations

City Charter and Code requirements

The primary benefit of audit reports is the effective implementation of recommendations by management. Bureau managers are required by City Charter and Code to respond in writing to audit recommendations, and to specify their plans for implementing solutions to identified problems.

Audit follow up

The Audit Services Division follows up on each audit one year after we issue the audit to determine which actions management took to implement our recommendations.  If audit recommendations are not fully implemented, we may choose to follow up again the following year or conduct additional audits of that program.

Recommendation tracking

The Audit Services Division tracks implementation of all audit recommendations, and we report annually to City Council on the percentage of recommendations that were implemented or in process for the previous two years.  Note that the implementation status represents a point in time when we followed up on the audit.
