Street closure begins Friday at Capitol Hwy. bridge to SW Barbur Blvd. in Hillsdale

(PORTLAND, Ore.) – A major route from Southwest Portland and Beaverton to Downtown Portland will be closed beginning Friday, impacting several bus routes. The eastbound Southwest Capitol Highway bridge to Southwest Barbur Boulevard in Hillsdale will be closed to all traffic from Friday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m., to Monday, Sept. 28, 6 a.m. Detours will be in effect.

Six TriMet bus lines – 44, 45, 54, 55, 56 and 92 – will be rerouted Friday onto Terwilliger Boulevard and experience up to 8-minute delays. Lines 44, 45, 54, and 56 will also be rerouted and delayed on Saturday and Sunday. Lines 55 and 92 do not run on weekends. Riders should plan trips in advance by visiting www.trimet.org or calling 503-238-RIDE (7433) weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation will be performing deck maintenance on the bridge by installing an epoxy overlay and repairing expansion joints. The overlay is intended to seal and protect the wearing surface of the bridge and deck reinforcing bars and will improve traction and skid resistance. The Bureau of Transportation was able to delay and consolidate its work schedule to avoid morning rush hour.

During the closure, eastbound lanes from Capitol Highway to Barbur Boulevard will be closed to all traffic at Terwilliger Boulevard for all hours. This includes bicycles and pedestrians. The westbound lanes from Barbur Boulevard to Capitol Highway will remain open.

Two detours will be in effect during the closure. Eastbound traffic from Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway will be detoured onto Bertha Boulevard toward Barbur Boulevard. Eastbound traffic and buses on Capitol highway in Hillsdale will be detoured onto Terwilliger Boulevard toward Barbur Boulevard. Traffic signals in the area will be altered to accommodate the detours.

Motorists are cautioned to observe all construction speed reductions during the closure and to be aware of workers in the construction zone. They should also note that this location is not the intersection of Capitol Highway and Barbur Boulevard at Interstate 5 approximately three miles southwest.
