River Renaissance is now part of the
Help Shape the Rivers Office Budget
The City's new Office of Healthy Working Rivers is convening an advisory committee to help shape its 2010 -11 budget proposal, and encourages interested citizens to volunteer.
We're seeking input on key directions for the upcoming year, community priorities for implementing the City's river vision, and ideas on how to shape the Office's proposed budget to fit these priorities and fiscal realities.
Members will be asked to attend a minimum of two committee meetings (1.5 hours each), and participate in up to two broader community forums to help identify budget priorities for our Office. It is likely that this advisory committee will continue to meet throughout the year to help determine future priorities for the Office.
If you are not able to commit to the full set of meetings, you are still welcome to attend any meeting or part of any meeting and provide your input.
The first meeting is scheduled for: Monday, December 9th
from 4:30 – 6:00 pm
in the Lodgepole Conference Room
Portland Building, 10th Floor
1120 SW 5th Avenue
If you are interested in participating in this volunteer opportunity, please send a short email or letter describing your background and why you are interested by December 1, 2009 to:

Recognizing The Willamette River as Portland’s Centerpiece
One of the City of Portland’s most important river goals is to reclaim the Willamette River as Portland’s centerpiece. Therefore the City promotes and celebrates the Willamette River as our chief environmental, economic, and urban asset.
What’s New
Since 2004, the River Renaissance Initiative has sought to coordinate the city’s river-related work, engage the public, and connect community partners to create innovative urban solutions to issues facing Portland's rivers. Central to this effort has been the belief that urban development, healthy natural systems, and a sustainable economy are complementary goals.
The Office of Healthy Working Rivers was established by City Council in January 2009 and will carry forward many of the priorities of River Renaissance, while placing far greater emphasis on taking strategic action. To read more about the Office of Healthy Working Rivers, click here.
