Wastewater Treatment in Portland
Portland operates two wastewater treatment plants - Columbia Boulevard in north Portland and Tryon Creek in Lake Oswego.
At the treatment plants, wastewater goes through a series of processes to clean the water and remove solid materials and chemicals.
A combined sewer system serves many Portland neighborhoods. In a combined system, sewer pipes that collect sewage from homes and businesses also collect rain that flows off roofs into roofdrains or across streets into stormdrains. This stormwater combines with household wastewater on its way to the treatment plant.
