The Office of Sustainable Development invited BDS, PDOT, Parks and the Water Bureau to participate in the first and largest GREEN show focusing on sustainable Home Garden & Lifestyles. This event is being sponsored by Energy Trust of Oregon along with many other local businesses that practice GREEN sustainable standard operating practices.
The City of Portland's bureaus teamed up and worked hard to put together an all-inclusive exhibit, which represents the city's sustainable business practices. The exhibit is a replica of a small neighborhood in which BDS displays a façade of a Living Smart house. Living Smart encourages infill housing that is appropriately designed for narrow lots in existing neighborhoods and as an incentive, Builders/Homeowners receive architect designed free plans and reduced permit fees when their permit is issued.
The week of the show BDS staff, Autumn BigBoy; Viktor Palchey; Colleen Daley and Tiffani Penson rolled up their sleeves and got dirty helping to lay pavers, building a retaining wall and painting the Living Smart house. This exhibit is truly a work of art and is like no other exhibit the City of Portland has ever done.
Thank you to OSD staff, JoEllen Carothers and Shaunna Sutcliffe who did a wonderful job of organizing, designing the exhibit and creating a successful work environment for all of the participating bureaus.
I strongly encourage everyone to attend this event to not only to see the great exhibit, but to learn ways to live more sustainable in your everyday life.
The Better Living Show runs Friday, March 28 - Sunday, March 30th at the Portland Expo Center with free admission. For more information, visit http://www.betterlivingshow.org.
I thought the show was great, a huge success!! I loved the number and variation of companies and products, and I'm proud that the city of Portland was involved in such an innovative show. Thank you, and I can't wait until next year.
