Portland Rose Festival - Behind the Scenes

Dispatcher's at the Bureau of Emergency Communications Center are operating a tactical channel during the Portland Rose Festival to track the status of officers while they are patrolling the Waterfront Village. Tactical briefings, maps and work assignments are made ahead of time to allow for additional staff to be available to handle the expected increase in call volume during the festival. Pictured below is Shay Sanders, an Emergency Communications Senior Dispatcher.

Maps used during the Waterfront Village event are set up to show locations of park features, gates, fire routes, aid stations, police command post, rides, food vendors, open eating areas, and vendor and sponsor exhibits. If you need help while in the Village our call takers and dispatchers will be able to immediately direct medical, fire or police responders to your location.  Oh yes and someone added some interesting ships and some fun little graphics to our map!! :)  Have fun during your visit...we really hope NOT to hear from you...but we are ready...just in case!
